Tooth-Colored Fillings

When a tooth needs a little help, our goal is always to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible while restoring its strength, function, and natural appearance.

At Cedars Family Dental, we place tooth-colored composite (resin) fillings rather than silver amalgam fillings. Composite materials bond directly to the tooth and can often be placed with more conservative tooth preparation, allowing us to preserve more of your natural tooth structure.

Composite fillings are carefully selected to blend with the shade of your natural teeth, making them a great option for both front and back teeth. They can be used to repair cavities as well as chipped, fractured, or worn teeth—with a result designed to blend naturally into your smile.

While silver fillings have served dentistry well for many years, like any restoration, they can eventually wear, crack, leak, or develop recurrent decay around them. When the removal of a silver filling is indicated, we try to replace the existing filling with a tooth-colored filling when we are able. Larger older silver restorations may need to be replaced with crowns.

Our goal is not simply to make a tooth look better, but to restore it in a way that is strong, conservative, functional, and natural-looking.
