Healthy Smiles Start with Prevention
At Cedars Family Dental, we believe some of the best dentistry is preventive dentistry. Regular dental cleanings and exams are essential not only for maintaining a healthy smile, but for supporting your overall health as well. Most patients benefit from preventive visits approximately every six months, although recommendations may vary depending on individual needs.
You may think you’re coming in simply to remove stubborn plaque, tartar, and staining—but we’re doing so much more than cleaning your teeth.
The mouth is often described as the gateway to the rest of the body, and for good reason. Your oral health and overall health are closely connected. Changes in your teeth, gums, and oral tissues can sometimes provide clues about underlying medical conditions, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal changes, or the effects of certain medications. Research also continues to explore the relationship between gum disease and systemic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
During your preventive visits, our team looks beyond cavities. We evaluate the health of your teeth and gums, perform oral cancer screenings, monitor changes in your oral tissues, and identify early signs of dental disease or other concerns that may warrant further evaluation. Regular cleanings, comprehensive periodontal evaluations, and personalized home care recommendations allow us to monitor your oral health over time and address small concerns before they become larger problems.
When additional care is needed, we offer treatments such as scaling and root planing, sometimes referred to as a “deep cleaning,” to help manage gum disease and prevent further damage to the supporting structures of your teeth. We also offer preventive treatments including fluoride varnish and silver diamine fluoride (SDF) to help strengthen enamel, protect against cavities, and manage existing tooth decay when appropriate.
Above all, we believe preventive dentistry is a partnership. By combining good home care with regular dental visits and a conservative approach to treatment, we can work together to keep your smile healthy, comfortable, and strong for years to come.
