Caring for Your Family Through Every Stage of Life

One of Dr. Barbosa’s greatest joys as a dentist is getting to know her patients and their families. There is something incredibly special about meeting a young child for their first dental visits, watching their personality emerge as they grow, and one day realizing that little patient has become a young adult. Just as meaningful is getting to know parents and grandparents, hearing their stories, and building relationships that last for generations.

At Cedars Family Dental, we welcome patients of all ages, from their very first tooth through adulthood and beyond. Our goal is to provide comprehensive, personalized dental care for your entire family, all in one familiar and welcoming place.

Children’s Dentistry: Building Healthy Habits Early

We believe a positive relationship with dentistry begins in childhood. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your child’s first dental visit when their first tooth appears, or no later than their first birthday.

These early visits are typically short, gentle, and focused on helping your child become comfortable in the dental environment. We’ll examine their developing teeth, discuss brushing habits, nutrition, bottles and pacifiers, and answer any questions you may have. Most importantly, we want your child to learn that visiting the dentist is a normal, positive part of growing up.

As children grow, we offer a variety of preventive and restorative treatments to help keep their smiles healthy:

  • Dental cleanings and exams: Routine visits allow us to monitor oral hygiene, identify early signs of cavities, and evaluate how the baby teeth and permanent teeth are developing.
  • Fluoride varnish: A quick, painless application that strengthens enamel and helps protect teeth against decay.
  • Dental sealants: Thin protective coatings placed over the deep grooves of back teeth, where cavities commonly develop. Sealants are a simple, effective way to protect teeth during cavity-prone childhood years.
  • Silver diamine fluoride (SDF): A conservative treatment that can help stop the progression of certain cavities without drilling. This can be particularly helpful for very young children or patients who may not yet be ready for traditional dental treatment.
  • Tooth-colored fillings: When cavities do develop, we offer restorative treatment to help preserve baby teeth and permanent teeth. Baby teeth play an important role in chewing, speech, and maintaining space for the permanent teeth that follow.
  • Growth and development monitoring: We evaluate how the teeth and jaws are developing, watch for crowding or bite concerns, and recommend orthodontic evaluations or early intervention when appropriate.
  • Dental emergencies: From a chipped tooth on the playground to a sports-related injury, we’re here to evaluate unexpected dental concerns and provide treatment or coordinate specialty care when needed.

Making Dental Visits a Positive Experience

We understand that every child is different. Some hop right into the dental chair, while others need a little more time to feel comfortable. Our approach is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each child’s personality and comfort level.

We explain what we’re doing in age-appropriate language, introduce new experiences gradually, and encourage children to participate in their own care. Parents are welcome to stay with their children throughout their appointments.

Our goal is never to rush or force an experience. If a child isn’t quite ready for a particular treatment, we’ll discuss the safest and most appropriate next steps together, which may include allowing more time to build confidence or coordinating care with a pediatric dental specialist.

We want children to grow up feeling confident about their smiles and comfortable visiting the dentist—not fearful of it.

Comprehensive Dental Care for Adults & Seniors

As we move through different stages of life, our dental needs naturally change. Whether you’re visiting us for routine preventive care, a broken tooth, gum disease, or something you’ve always wanted to improve about your smile, we’re here to help.

Our general dentistry services include routine exams and cleanings, tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, tooth replacement options, emergency dental care, and coordination with trusted local specialists when additional treatment is needed.

As patients age, maintaining oral health can present new challenges. Medical conditions, medications, changes in mobility, and financial considerations can all influence treatment decisions. Dr. Barbosa works with patients and their families to prioritize their needs and explore conservative, practical approaches that maintain comfort, function, and quality of life.
